Reading schemes:

Early years and Key Stage 1

Kingston Community School works to develop a love of reading from the start of a child’s education. We use a decodeable reading scheme called Phonics Bugs for early reading in Early Years and Key Stage 1.

We use the Phonics Bug & IN FACT schemes in EYFS & Bug Club, IN FACT and Song Birds in KS1.

Teachers are able to assign books specific to a child’s attainment in each phase of Letters and Sounds.

We celebrate reading in the classrooms by creating book areas with a range of books. Children also have enriched reading opportunities throughout the year through initiatives such as World Book Day, topic book boxes and library visits.

We also use Read and Write Inc. to teach Phonics.
