Works to Kingston House are progressing, the gas disconnection works were completed on the 7th January and scaffolding has been erected on the Coombe Road elevation. However, last week we were advised that a re-design to the scaffold has been necessary on the car wash elevation. This is expected to be resolved in the next few weeks but has nonetheless caused some unavoidable delay to the enabling works programme. Scaffolding commenced to this elevation on the morning of 24th January and demolition is now expected to take place in mid-February with completion in mid- April.
We are pleased to announce that a preferred development partner has been selected following the OJEU procurement process that completed in January.
The Department for Education (DFE) are in the process of requesting additional budget before entering into a development agreement. The approvals process is expected to take a number of weeks. The additional budget must be approved before the Secretary of State can enter into a development agreement. The target date for entering into a development agreement is in late February, at which point we will be able to announce the name of the development partner.
In the meantime, we have been advised that a workshop is being organised with the development partner to discuss a scope of works that will enable the development partner to start on site in parallel with the enabling works contractor. At this stage, we cannot confirm programme implications until the Department for Education (DFE) has received ministerial approval and entered into a development agreement. Once a contractor is on board, we will be able to tell you much more about timescales and what the project team are doing to mitigate against any potential delays.”
2019-2020 Expansion Plans:
As raised at the previous parents’ meeting with James Royal, our current space in Acre Road is insufficient for our growing school. The option of additional temporary classrooms was suggested, but this has been ruled out by all involved as an unsuitable solution for 2019-2020. Therefore in partner- ship with the Local Authority and the DFE, a lease has been drawn up, enabling KCS to rent part of the vacant Murray House building, also situated on Acre Road, in very close proximity to the current school site.
The council have confirmed that the legal documentation for the lease is now approved and will be sent out ready for engrossment soon. The council expects vacant possession of the building in early February following the council’s decision on 23rd January to formally close Murray House.
Plans for Murray House are progressing well and are on programme to meet a September 2019 opening. Floor plans have been agreed in full consultation with the school and the additional space will now provide the school with teaching facilities for our existing Key Stage 2 pupils.
Additional budget has been requested for the refurbishment works to Murray House and is in the process of being approved shortly. Tender documents are being prepared by the technical team alongside a change of use application. The tender process is expected to take place towards the end of February with contractor appointment in April.
